04-18-2022    8:12 AM    OPINION    "Consensual child sex," is there such a thing?

A letter to the editor in the Gillette News Record asks those of us who object to promoting ****philia in library books for children, "Why do you care how people dress or who they love?"

I heard: "Only haters object to the local chapter of NAMBLA (under a new name) wanting to perform sex acts with children aged birth and up."

There is no mistaking the content and the intentions in the ALA librarian material being distributed to kids. The content includes many examples of explicit sex acts described between children (and between children and adults). Terri Lesley says that this content is appropriate to push on kids because the sex acts described are all "consensual."

Did Terri Lesley speak a legal truth? Is there such a thing as consensual rape, Statutory or otherwise? In 2017 the answer was "No, legally, a child is not capable of giving consent to sexual contact." ALA librarians are knowingly and willfully grooming children with material promoting ****philia.

How do you explain Wyoming Law Enforcement's duality on the issue of promoting sex with children: Is it a class thing, a gender thing, or a sexual orientation thing that serves as making a distinction between that being acceptable behavior or that being criminal behavior?

In the letter quoted below, Sarah Cotton suggests that opponents to ****philia being taught in public libraries and public schools should "befriend a Queer." Most of us have both friends and family who fall under that umbrella of "Queer" who are not ****philes.

In the comment left by Laurie Tusha who agrees with Sarah Cotton's letter, Laurie suggests that opponents to ****philia being taught in public libraries and public schools are homophobic and ignorant. In reality there is a difference between being homosexual and making sex objects out of other peoples' young children. The sex and/or gender of the victim is totally irrelevant to everybody who opposes ****philia.

Both sides agree that this library and public school activity is a debacle, as per the letter below. What we do not agree on is whether the debacle is the parents protecting their children or the strangers sexualizing them for sport.

While the Wyoming State Legislature and Law Enforcement are busy protecting livestock from sexual intrusion (HB0046, 2021), your kids are free game! Priorities, right?

Thank you for reading. The purpose of my campaigns is to highlight corruption and to get assistance from anyone who is able and willing to help return Gillette and Campbell County and Wyoming to American Ideals, and hopefully a culture that applies the law equally to all citizens regardless of position or social class. Thank you so much for the efforts you are making and have already made. Please forward to everyone that you know who might be interested in the information I share. God Bless You, and God Bless America.

If you fear queer, befriend one

Apr 5, 2022

I've followed the library debacle for the last year or so, and with it comes a growing sense of incredulity. A violently loud minority here insist upon pushing outdated and fear-fueled ideas that I'd like to take a moment to address.

Queerness is not inherently sexual. Wishing to change gender, or romance someone of your same gender need not have sexual implications at all. Many queer people know they're queer from a very young age, before ever understanding anything of a sexual nature. Think of your first schoolyard crush. Would you assign sexual intentions to it?

The existence of queer people is not "unnatural" or "deviant." It is not a sin. Queerness occurs constantly in nature: Many fish like the kobudai change gender partway through their lives. Lionesses, in absence of a male in the pride, sometimes grow manes and take their place. Birds like penguins have been known to form gay partnerships and raise chicks. Many plants depend on intersex forms (having multiple sexual characteristics) in order to procreate.

Because biological findings may not impact the minds of those I'm trying to reach, here are some examples of queerness in the Bible.

David and Jonathan made a vow of love to each other before God in an exchange resembling a Jewish marriage. (1 Samuel 20)

The original Hebrew version of Exodus 3 has God referring to themself with ambiguous pronouns; implying that God has no gender (or does not match our perceptions of gender.)

Ruth and Naomi, left husbandless in a time where women were offered few rights, chose to remain together to the ends of the earth instead of seeking husbands. (Ruth 1:16-17) Ruth eventually has a baby with Boaz and Naomi takes it to child. This seems to indicate a parental bond between the three; ie a polyamorous trio.

Jesus and John the beloved often engaged in public displays of deep affection; for example John laid on Jesus' chest as they dined at Passover (he was the little spoon; John 13: 23) Such an interaction in today's conservative America would be seen as gay and result in harassment or worse.

There's much more to say on the topic, but I'll leave you with this;

Why do you care how people dress or who they love? If you fear queer people, maybe try befriending one.

Sarah Cotton

Thank you so much! So nice to hear a voice of reason and knowledge, rather than fear fueled by homophobia and flagrant ignorance.
